Because your rug deserves a little TLC too.

Every Floorplay rug is hand-tufted with love, so it’s only fair you treat it with the same. Here’s a quick, no-nonsense (and no-boring) guide to keeping your rug looking fabulous, fresh, and floor-flirt-worthy for years.

☀️ Let There Be Light… But Not Too Much

Rugs are a lot like people — they thrive in sunlight but can fade if left out too long. Keep your rug out of direct, harsh sunlight to prevent fading. Filtered light? That’s the sweet spot.

🔄 Rotate, Don’t Hibernate

Your rug shouldn’t have a “better side.” Rotate it every few months to even out wear and tear. This way, one corner doesn’t get all the foot traffic fame.

✂️ Snip, Don’t Rip

Found a loose thread? Don’t pull! Grab a pair of scissors and trim it neatly. Tugging can unravel more than just the yarn — it can unravel our hearts too.

🪑 Furniture Feels

Heavy sofas and chairs can crush your rug's plushy pile. Use furniture pads or coasters under legs to prevent those annoying dents. Give your rug the breathing space it deserves.

🌨️ Shedding Season? Totally Normal.

Especially with hand-tufted rugs — some shedding is totally normal in the first 3–6 months. It’s just the rug settling into its new home. A little vacuuming goes a long way.

🧹 Vacuum Like a Pro

Vacuuming regularly is key to keeping your rug looking fresh. But hold that thought — not all vacuums are rug-friendly.

Here’s what to do (and avoid):

  • Use a low suction setting.

  • Say no to rotary brushes or beater bars — they’re too aggressive.

  • Canister vacuums, hand-helds, or plain ol’ sweeping with a soft broom work best.

Avoid vacuuming the edges or fringes too often. Be gentle. Love those curves.

💧 Spills Happen. Don’t Panic.

  • Blot (don’t rub!) spills immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth.

  • Avoid soaking the rug — use minimal water and mild, diluted detergent if necessary.

  • Make sure to dry it fully — damp rugs = stains and smells you don’t want.

🌬️ Shake It Out, Air It Out

Flip your rug upside down and gently beat it outdoors to release trapped dust and loose yarns. Let it breathe. Rugs need fresh air too.

🛏️ Going Into Storage? Store It Smart.

If your rug’s going on a break, treat it to a proper send-off:

  • Roll it, don’t fold — always with the front side facing out.

  • Wrap it in breathable fabric or plastic.

  • Store in a cool, dry place with good airflow.

  • Clean the storage area regularly to keep bugs away.

  • Don’t pile heavy things on top — it’s a rug, not a shelf.

🧽 When It’s Time for a Deep Clean

We recommend professional cleaning every 2–3 years. Make sure to go to someone who knows their rugs. Ask for a pre-inspection, and always get a written receipt with a service guarantee.
